This historic train has been in continuous operation between
Durango and Silverton since 1882, carrying passengers behind vintage steam
locomotives and rolling stock indigenous to the line. Relive the sights and
sounds of yesteryear for a spectacular journey on board the Durango &
Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This beauty will use over 10,000 gallons of
water to make the round trip.

I finally got another item off the bucket list; I’ve only been
trying since 1997! I think the only way
I got to this time is because we had Buck & Nell (Jerry’s brother and
sister-in-law) with us and they were gain.
We went cheap (if you want to call $90/ticket cheap) in the standard vintage coach, which we felt were the best seats on the train…at least going up.
By the time we made it to Silverton (3.5
hours later) I had gained a migraine, so riding back with the sun hitting us in
the face, a very warm coach and hearing cliackety-clack for another 3.5
hours – we had wished we paid the extra $20/person to ride back on the nice luxury
bus with air condition.

All in all we saw some beautiful sites which we would never
have seen, so I’m glad I got to experience it once!
