CARVING #5 – “ALAN WYATT MEMORIAL”

The Tour of Carvings Project is a comeback story of the Vallecito community following the 2002 Missionary Ridge Fire near the City of Bayfield, between Pagosa Springs and Durango in SW Colorado.  During a three week period over 70,000 acres were burned at a cost of 40.8 million dollars. Over 4,000 firefighters and support personnel helped extinguish the fire with one death - Alan Wyatt.

CARVING #7A – “REBIRTH OF VALLACITO”

David McGinnis embarked on a mission to pay tribute to the firefighters and help restore tourism to the Vallecito Lake area. The mission was to have a local wood carver, using actual photos taken during the fire, carve images of firefighting personnel, animals and equipment.  There was original 15 carving, but only 14 remain on site all located on the West side of the reservoir.
